According to the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA), “pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounded medications are “made from scratch” – individual ingredients are mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required by the patient. This method allows the compounding pharmacist to work with the patient and the prescriber to customize a medication to meet the patient’s specific needs.”

What are the Benefits of Compounding?

At Fairmont Pharmacy we can compound medication that is allergy-friendly, easier to use, or difficult to find/discontinued. We can alter the flavor to make the medication more palatable, avoid unwanted ingredients like dyes, preservatives, lactose, gluten or sugar, or adjust the strength of a medication. For patients that have difficulty swallowing a capsule, we may be able to prepare the drug as a liquid suspension instead. Other medication forms include topical gels or creams, suppositories, sublingual troches or even lollipops.
